Women’s Capital League 1 2013 season review – by Kate Dooley
This year we had a change in coaching personnel, with Chris Hotchkis taking over from Andrew Tomadini and David Weir. He brought enthusiasm and the ‘Central passion’ to the first grade team. He also convinced Tonina Staunton to come back to Central, and also key striker Louisa Roberts to move from ANU.
At the very first pre season session we had 4 people show up, I thought it was going to be a tough year rebuilding the first grade team. From the 2012 team we had lost 8 players and with Sarah Dobbie overseas until August it was going to be a difficult task to find permanent players. By the end of Round One we had a pool of players, with the addition of Rebecca Sneskov, Alex Irwin and Mandy George from interstate. Mandy George continued to travel from Bathurst every weekend up until August.
The team played well on the field and continued to show the other teams in the competition that Central is more than just a team but a family that works together. We narrowly missed out on the finals this year (finishing 5th) but feel that we deserved to play in the finals and will be aiming for this goal next year.
