Central's U21 Men Representatives

Central’s Matthew Forman, Thomson Stuckey, Liam Hackett-Hanson and Sean Baker represented ACT at the Australian Under 21 Championships in Sydney, NSW.


The 2014 Under 21 Men’s Australian Championships were held in Sydney, NSW from June 30 until July 11. Central Hockey Club was well represented in the ACT U21 Men side with four players taking part in the championship – Matt Forman, Thomson Stuckey, Liam Hackett-Hansson and Sean Baker.

The ACT outfit got away to a good start of the tournament with a 6-1 thrashing of South Australia on Day 1 before going down to Northern Territory 5-3 on Day 2, and Tasmania 7-3 on Day 3 where Liam Hackett-Hansson got on the board 24 minutes in to claim one of ACT’s three goals.

Day 4 brought a 9-1 defeat to the hands of a strong NSW outfit before Day 5’s close tussle saw ACT narrowly defeated 5-4 by Victoria. Hackett-Hansson was the first to put ACT on the board again 26 minutes into the match. ACT’s final two goals were scored in the final minute of play ensuring that players stayed switched on right until the final whistle.

The ACT Men went down 3-1 to QLD on Day 6 and down to Western Australia 5-3 on Day 7, with Thomson Stuckey putting a goal away 5 minutes from fulltime.

ACT won their 6th vs. 7th Classification match 5-2 against Northern Territory on Day 8 before falling to the hands of Tasmania 5-1 on day 9 to finish the tournament in sixth position.

Central U15 Reps

ACT U15’s girls state side has finished phase one of the Australian National U15 Girls championships sitting second in their pool.

ACT went down to QLD 1-0 on Day One before downing the Victoria 2 side 3-0 on Day Two, with Central players Claudia Apps slotting away a goal from a penalty corner in the 9th minute and Sophie Woodbridge converting a field goal in the 60th minute. On Day Three the ACT team came off at halftime against South Australia trailing 2-0, but came back to claim a 2-2 draw by the final hooter.

Following Tuesday’s rest day, ACT played a crossover pool match against NSW, going down to the two blues 3-0. The ACT outfit will line up against Victoria at 2pm today to earn their final placings going into the finals on Saturday and Sunday.

Central Hockey Club would like to wish Central players Claudia Apps and Sophie Woodbridge, and the rest of their ACT team,  the best of luck for the remainder of the championships.

The championships run in Hobart, Tasmania, from 12 April – 20 April.

U18 National Championships commence today with the Women in Melbourne and the Men in Canberra.
